Trialists giving Royals manager a nice problem.

Royals manager Neil Tooth faces a selection headache with the new season fast approaching. A number of new faces and some trialists have performed well in pre season so far giving Tooth a nice problem to sort out.

We caught up with the manager who had this to say, "At the moment I have 22 players that could all be in line to make the squad for the Spalding game on the 16th. It is well known that I don't keep a large squad around me I like to operate with 18 max so that means that 4 or 5 are going to be unlucky and not get in but at this moment I couldn't tell you which 4 they are going to be. Out of the 8 lads that came in on trial iv kept 3 and another 3 have gone into our 21s so the standard has been very good this year. The new lads Andre Gonzales, Ashley Walker, Brendon Kelly, Danny O'Callaghan and Ashley Robinson have been fantastic so far and lets not forget I already had a bunch of players that I was very happy with so the next few weeks are going to be tough on some but im hoping that the competition for squad places will drive us on as everyone of the players here wants to be in that 18".

The Royals are still without a win in pre season losing 1 and drawing 2 but Tooth was not to fussed about that. "Of course you want to win every game but the first 3 we have played iv used to look at various players and different shapes. Against Boldmere we missed some golden chances and the changes I made disrupted our tempo but as it was our first game and we had only been in a week I was happy. The Wellington game I used to look at all of the trialists and at times we played some really good stuff. The Hinckley game was an improvement on the other 2 and that's all iv asked for from the lads and that all ill be after this Saturday against Alvechurch is an improvement on the Hinckley performance.
