The Walsall Senior Cup is the senior competition of the former Walsall and District FA, who were incorporated into the Staffordshire FA. The competition started in the 1880s, and can be contested by any club with approved floodlighting and who are situated within 40 miles of the bridge in Walsall.

Today is a very exciting one for Sutton Coldfield Town FC as we travel to the Bank’s Stadium, home to Walsall Football Club. We meet Boldmere St. Michaels for the final of the Walsall Senior Cup, and both Clubs will be battling for the trophy, and also the bragging rights as champions of Sutton Coldfield.

Boldmere St, Michaels is a football club based in Boldmere, Sutton Coldfield, England. They are currently members of the Midland League Premier Division and play at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground. Originally named Church Road, the ground was renamed in 2004 after former chairman Trevor Brown. The ground currently has a capacity of 2,500, of which 230 are seated and 400 covered.

Boldmere St. Michaels, or the Mikes as they are nicknamed were founded in 1883 as a Youth football team attached to the local church Bible class. They played friendly matches against other local church teams until 1912 when they entered their first football league.
They play in home colours of white and black shirts, black shorts and black and white striped socks. Their new away kit is an orange shirt with a black and white trim.

Sutton, had a great game against Bromsgrove last week, and even though the result went against them in the end it still felt like a win. They will be on a high going into this game.

Sutton arrived at this final by beating Tividale 3-0, Heath Hayes 4-1 and Lye Town 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal play.

Boldmere had a tough run themselves by having to beat Chasetown 2-0, Walsall 4-1, and Sporting Khalsa 5-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time.

Tonight, is a Sutton local derby, both sides know each other well being so close in proximity, but haven’t played each other recently so it will be all the more special for the victors tonight.

Here’s to an entertaining and successful game.
