The Walsall Senior Cup is the senior competition of the former Walsall and District FA, who were incorporated into the Staffordshire FA. The competition started in the 1880s, and can be contested by any club with approved floodlighting and who are situated within 40 miles of the bridge in Walsall.

Today’s match is a very exciting one for Sutton Coldfield Town FC as we welcome Boldmere St Michaels to Coles Lane. This is our first competitive match with Boldmere since we last played them in this very competition way back in May 2019. This was in the final of the same competition which unfortunately, Sutton ended up losing 2-0 on the night.

Boldmere St, Michaels is a football club based in Boldmere, Sutton Coldfield, England. They are currently members of the Midland League Premier Division and play at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground. Originally named Church Road, the ground was renamed in 2004 after former Chairman, Trevor Brown. The ground currently has a capacity of 2,500, of which 230 are seated and 400 covered.

Boldmere St. Michaels, or the Mikes as they are nicknamed, were founded in 1883 as a youth football team attached to the local church bible class. They played friendly matches against other local church teams until 1912, when they entered their first football league.

They play in home colours of white and black shirts, black shorts and black and white striped socks. Their new away kit is an orange shirt with a black and white trim.

Sutton have had some mixed results of late, but the work rate and performances have been first class, and this will be a great opportunity to progress in this competition.

Sutton have arrived at this stage by beating Stafford Rangers 3-0, whereas Boldmere have knocked out Walsall in an amazing 8-0 victory.

Boldmere will be tough opposition as they sit in 3rd place in the Midlands football league (9) and have been playing well. Sutton are effectively only seven places above them in league position, so there’s not a lot between these two sides.

Tonight, is a Sutton local derby. Both sides know each other well being so close in proximity, but as they haven’t played each other recently, it will be all the more special for the victors tonight.

Here’s to an entertaining and successful game.

COME ON YOU ROYALS.
