Saturday we visit our Division 1 Central opponents Cambridge City FC at the Glassworld Stadium, Impington, Cambridgeshire. They currently play at the Glassworld Stadium, which they have shared with Histon FC since 2018, and their nickname is the Lilywhites. The stadium holds 4030 supporters and they play on a grass pitch measuring 101m x 64m. The club have a new stadium, Sawston planned and although the work has not yet started, there is lots of planning and behind the scenes activity happening prior to the impending start.
Cambridge City FC were founded in 1908 as Cambridge Town and won several titles and cups in their early years. In 1951 both Cambridge Town and Abbey United applied to change their name to Cambridge City. As Cambridge Town submitted their application and it was received first, the application was accepted and they were given the name; Abbey United then became Cambridge Town.
Cambridge City play in a home kit of a white shirt, black shorts and black socks, and an away kit of light blue shirt, shorts and socks. The goalkeeper plays in all the greens, shirt shorts and socks.
Today will be a must win game for both sides as both have seen a slide in form in recent weeks. Cambridge have only had one win in the last six games and had a poor result last week and Sutton have lost their last two games. It will be a welcome three points for either side to claim and to head towards the Christmas period on a positive note.
Here’s to an entertaining and rewarding game.
COME ON YOU ROYALS.
