Today we welcome Didcot Town to the Central Ground for our New Year’s Day fixture. Didcot Town are based in Didcot, Oxfordshire and are nicknamed ‘The Railwaymen’.
They were formed in 1907 when Didcot Village FC and Northbourne Wanderers joined forces to form Didcot Town Football Club.
One of the more important events in the club’s 100-year history was when the Railwaymen moved to their new Loop Meadow Stadium which was part of the redevelopment of Didcot Town Centre. For this to happen, Didcot Town were required to transfer from their old Station Road ground for the start of the 99/00 season and onto the continually increasing in size Ladygrove Housing Estate. This was situated on the other side of the railway-line which cut the town into two halves, ironically, it was only a few hundred yards away from their old pitch.
Didcot Town play on a grass pitch measuring 195 x 68 yards and have a home kit of read and white shirts, white shorts and red sock. Their away kit is blue and yellow shirts, blue shorts and yellow socks, and the goalkeeper wears a grey shirt, short and socks.
Sutton, having won their last game, will be keen to extend that to start a run towards the play offs. With Didcot in sixth place and unbeaten in their last five, this will be a stern test for the lads in blue.
Let’s hope for plenty of support, with Sutton in ninth place, a little more backing may well get them further up that table. Let’s hope for an entertaining game with plenty of goals.
COME ON YOU ROYALS.
