Mark Sanders takes a look at games to come, key dates and past encounters

It’s the start of another season that’s just around the corner and if its anything like last season we are in for a treat.

We find ourselves in another league, namely the Northern Premier League Division One South East, which will see us pitch ourselves against old foes such as Ilkeston and Chasetown.

Our first league game of the season is at home against Spalding United, a team we last played in 2014/15 winning 2-0 in the same fixture. They are a club based in Lincolnshire and are nicknamed The Tulips; they were formed in 1921 so nearly their centenary.

Our first away fixture comes on the 21st August at Carlton Town. Again, having last played them in 2014/15 and losing 1-0 in this fixture, it is something we can only hope to rectify this time round. Carlton are based in Nottingham, nicknamed the Millers which is derived from their historic connection with the cotton trade. The club, although having had a recent name change have been playing since 1904.

The Christmas period is an interesting one, seeing us face fellow locals Chasetown on Boxing day at the Central ground. Having last played them in 2014/15 only to get a draw, we will have higher expectations this season for sure. Chasetown, who were formed in 1954, are not far away in Burntwood Staffs and are nicknamed the Scholars from their long association with Chase Terrace High School.

Following on from this we have a long trip to Cleethorpes F.C on New Year’s Day. Meeting this team will be a first for the Royals, so we will be an unknown entity to each other, based in North Lincolnshire their nickname is the owls and were only formed in 1998.

The Easter weekend gives us a home tie against Leek Town on the Saturday and a local fixture against Chasetown on the bank holiday Monday.

Sutton last played Leek in 2014/15 season in the play off final and won 2-0 a repeat of that score line would be an Easter gift gratefully received. Leek Town were formed in 1946, are nicknamed The Blues, and play their football in Staffordshire at Harrison Park.

Suttons last away game of the season is against Wisbech Town followed by our last home game of the season against Newcastle Town.

Wisbech are a team Sutton haven’t played for a while running out 1-0 winner’s way back in the 1998/1999 season.

Based in Staffordshire Newcastle under Lyne, Newcastle Town were formed in 1964 and last played Sutton in the 2014/15 play off semi-final where they run out 3-1 winners.

Two new teams we will be seeing in the league this season are Glossop North End, who play their football in Glossop Derby. They were formed in 1886 and are nicknamed the Hillmen, along with Worksop Town, who are in Nottinghamshire, are nicknamed The Tigers and were formed in 1861.

Our other teams for the 2019/20 season will be Belper Town, Sheffield F.C. and Ilkeston Town all based in Derbyshire. Lincoln United and Stamford A.F.C. are both based in Lincolnshire, Kidsgrove Athletic in Staffordshire, Market Drayton Town in Shropshire, Loughborough Dynamo in Leicestershire, Frickley Athletic based in West Yorkshire and Stocks-Bridge Steels based South Yorkshire.

Our recent results against these teams are as follows:

Belper Town LEAGUE 2013/14 HOME 3-4 AWAY 2-2.

Sheffield F.C LEAGUE 2014/15 HOME 3-0 AWAY 3-2.

Ilkeston Town LEAGUE 2016/17 HOME 1-0 AWAY 0-1.

Lincoln United LEAGUE 2014/15 HOME 2-2 AWAY 2-1.

Stamford AFC F.A TROPHY 2017/18 AWAY 0-3.

Kidsgrove Athletic LEAGUE 2014/15 HOME 2-0 AWAY 0-2.

Market Drayton LEAGUE 2014/15 HOME 4-1 AWAY 1-1.

Loughborough Dynamo LEAGUE 2014/15 HOME 2-0 AWAY 5-0.

Frickley Athletic LEAGUE 2016/17 HOME 3-1 AWAY 0-2.

Stocksbridge Steels LEAGUE 2014/15 HOME 3-3 AWAY 2-0.

Cup games to take note of are as follows.

Our first preliminary F.A cup round will be played on the 24th August against either Dunkirk or Gresley away. Many of you will remember us beating Gresley last year to start a good cup run, will history repeat itself I wonder?

Our first F.A Trophy preliminary round will be against Yaxley at home on the 12th October, a team which we beat 3-1 only last season.

It promises to be a great season with some new adventures for the Royals, The Ultras and all supporters along with familiar faces from recent years.

Let’s all get behind the team and have a great turnout for the first game of the season.

We hope you can join us on our journey and thank you for your continued support.
