Steve Benyon leaves his position as Sutton Coldfield Town Women’s head coach

Alexander Moloney9 Mar - 18:00

Sutton Coldfield Town can confirm that Steve Benyon has left his role as head coach of the women’s team due to personal commitments.

In the short term, the current coaching staff will take charge of the team, with the club already working to find a permanent solution.

Benyon joined in late November and would get off to a quick start by beating promotion-chasing Leafield.

During his time at the Domino’s Arena, he would take charge of eight games, winning five.

In his first full month in charge, Benyon was nominated for the FA Women’s National League Manager of the Month award.

Steve Benyon commented: “I’ve just moved house, and this week has just been mad, but with the moving in and everything and trying to focus on that, I think I've got to put, not just myself first this time, I think I've got to put others around me first, that's family and friends I haven't seen for 20-odd years.

“The staff will step up, and the players will obviously continue to step up and play forwards, I'll always be a fan at heart, and if I can help out in any way, of course, I will.

“ I've got to put the players first that's the big one, really, I could carry on and ride all the pressure and everything, but it's not fair on the players.

“I think two weeks ago was the right time, and I think now is the time where the interim management team can bed their own ideas in if they need to.

“ Keep on believing, keep on supporting, keep on remembering the process and where we were and where we are now. It's only going to get better.

“Trust in what we're doing, support the management team, support the players, as I said, our goal is to continue to get Sutton Coldfield onto the map and everyone play with a smile on their face, and we go home and enjoy ourselves.”

Sutton Coldfield would like to thank Steve for his unwavering dedication during his time in the role and wish him the best in the future, we look forward to seeing him back at the Domino’s Arena very soon!
