The 2024/2025 Season Preview

Alexander Moloney27 Jul 2024 - 08:03

Mark Sanders takes a look at the season ahead!

Well, another season is just around the corner, and we start with wishing Cameron Stuart and his backroom staff all the very best in their first full season with the Royals. Last season Sutton finished 10th on 51 points, and this season the aim is top 5. With a better start to the season, we will definitely be in the mix.

We find ourselves in the same league as last season, namely the Northern Premier League Midlands Division. It will see us pitch ourselves against old foes such as Corby and Coleshill, along with local rivals Boldmere St Michaels.

Our first league game of the season is away against Quorn, a team who we drew against last season.

Our first home fixture comes on the Tuesday night on the 13th August against Coventry Sphinx. We played them last season where we won 1-0. Coventry Sphinx were fighting most of the season to stave off relegation.

The Summer Bank Holiday on 26th August takes us to local rivals Coleshill Town, who we last played last season and won 2-0. Nicknamed the Colemen or the Colts, they were formed in 1894. Sutton will be hoping for a similar positive result this time round.

The Christmas period is an interesting one, as it sees us face fellow locals Boldmere on Boxing Day at the Domino’s Arena. Having played them three times last year, and still yet to find a win at home, we will have higher expectations this season for sure.

Following on from this, we welcome Coleshill Town to start the New Year off with a game which we unexpectedly drew 2-2 last season.

The Easter weekend gives us a Saturday away tie against Wellingborough Town. A team we last played in the 86/87 FA Cup Preliminary round where we lost 3-1. Following this, it’s a local fixture at home to Boldmere on Bank Holiday Monday.

The last game of the season will be away to Rugby Town, which ironically was our first game of last season. The Royals can only hope we fair better this time around after losing 1-0, which started a bad run for the Royals.

As well as the already mentioned Wellingborough Town, we also have other new teams in the League.

Darlaston Town, who we met in the 95/96 season in the WSC 1st round. We won 2-0 at home.

Racing Club Warwick, who we played in 2001/02 at home in the league. We won 2-1 at home.

Worcester City, who we played in the 2003/04 season in the Worcester Senior Cup final. We won 2-1 at home.

Grantham Town, who we played in the 22-23 season in the FA Trophy, where we won 2-1

Two new teams that we have never played before will be Long Eaton United, and Loughborough Students.

Our other teams for the 2024/25 season will be, Bedworth United, Sporting Khalsa, Anstey Nomads, AFC Rushden and Diamonds, Hinckley LR, Walsall Wood, Shepshed Dynamo and Lye.

Our recent results against these teams were as follows:

Corby Town. NPL 2023/24 Home lost 0-1. Away drew 2-2

Shepshed Dynamo. NPL 2023/24 Home Lost 0-1 Away won 0-1

Bedworth United. NPL 2023/24 Home Won 1-0 Away won 1-0.

Sporting Khalsa. NPL 2023/24 Home Drew 1-1 Away won 2-0.

Lye. NPL 2023/24 Home Lost 1-4 Away lost 2-0.

Walsall Wood. NPL 2023/24 Home Won 1-0 Away lost 3-0

AFC Rushden and Diamonds. NPL 2023/24 Home won 2-0 Away lost 0-1

Hinckley LR. NPL 23/24 Home Lost 1-3 Away lost 2-0.

Anstey Nomads. NPL 2023/24 Home Won 4-2 Away Lost 1-2.

Cup games to take note of are as follows:

Our first preliminary FA Cup round will be played on the 3rd August. It will be to locals Romulus who play at The Dominos Arena also. It will be a tough test that’s for sure, with a lot at stake for both clubs.

Our first FA Trophy preliminary round will be at home against Newcastle Town on the 7th September. A team we last played in this very competition drawing 0-0 in 2021.

We wish Cameron Stewart, his coaching staff and the incoming players all the best for the coming season, and hope you have a successful time with the club.

It promises to be a great season with some new adventures for the Royals, The Ultras and all supporters, along with familiar faces from recent years.

Let’s all get behind the team and have a great turnout for the first game of the season.

We hope you can join us on our journey, and thank you for your continued support.
