Mark Sanders gets to know the Directors at SCTFC

During the summer each week we will be giving an insight into the Directors at SCTFC who help keep the club running. Mark Sanders kindly prepared a questionnaire for them all to fill out and send back to be shared with all.

This week we meet Director, Communications and Programme Editor - Alex Moloney.

1 How long have you been associated with Sutton Coldfield Town?

I have been watching Sutton since September 2011, and a Director since May 2017.

2 How did you become involved with Sutton.

I started watching Sutton as a Fan, which led to match day volunteering, which then led to being invited onto the board of Directors.

3 Can you remember your first game? If so, which one was it?

Yes, SCTFC 4 – 1 Shepshed Dynamo (24th September 2011) – Sutton went 1 down to a penalty and then came back to dominate the game – I was hooked!

4 What is your role at the club?
Director, Match day support and manage all social media, website etc, more recently Programme Editor.

5 What are your typical match day duties?

I will normally start with the 50/50 tickets being sold, update social media for all of the pre-game news and key highlights of the game, plus supporting hospitality in the board room.

6 Do you support any other league clubs? I used to be a Manchester United fan but this has dwindled following Sutton to just checking scores at best.

7 What is the best game you have seen at Sutton, or your best moment?

There have been a lot of great games I’ve been fortunate to see. Some of the best are beating Blyth Spartans away 2-1 in the NPL October 2015, coming back from 2-0 down to beat Blyth Spartans 2-3 at home in the NPL, 2017, The NPL Division 1 South play-off final in 2015 beating Leek 2-0 at their ground, and more recently the 3-2 play off semi-final defeat to Bromsgrove where Toothy and the team were very unlucky not to get anything out of this classic.

I also enjoyed a 1-0 Cup Final Victory for the Ladies against a strong Leek side a year or so ago.

8 What is your favourite film?

I’m a big fan of films, and a lot of them spring to mind – But I’ve always enjoyed re watching Last of the Mohicans

9 What are your hobbies other than football?

I have a season ticket at Warwickshire CCC to keep me busy in the summer, and I have many collections including football badges, programmes…. And Lego…. A childhood hobby I can’t let go off.

10 What are your hopes for the coming season?

I personally like to stay optimistic as it makes for a more enjoyable season, but if we can improve on the season just gone I would be very happy! 1st round proper of the FA Cup would be pretty good if I did pick an ambitious target.

11 What improvements would you like to see at the ground?

There are always improvements taking place, and I’ve been very happy and impressed with them all as they add to overall facility and atmosphere for the club. I’ve been a big fan of the new flood lights project and have been attempting to raise money to help fund the massive project.

12 Who has been the best player you have seen over the years?

There have been several great players I have seen including, James Hurst, Joel Kettle, James Wren, Matt Jackson, Justin Richards, Phil Male, Craig Marshall, Tom Turton, Danny O’Callaghan to name a few

13 Where is the furthest you have travelled to see Sutton?

Definitely Workington, that's an around trip of 424 miles.

14 What made you choose to volunteer with Sutton Coldfield?

It just sort of happened on the back of attending games, socialising and making friends and acquaintances.

15 What are your aspirations for the upcoming season?

Generally much the same as in question 10, but I would like to see Adam and Brads U21s go from Strength to Strength, and similar to Andy and James with the Ladies who constantly push the standard higher every year.

16 What are your thoughts on last season?

Overall a really good season where I think the rebuilding after relegation went quicker and better than anyone would have hoped, and I am really happy to see a strong bond within the team.

17 How do you relax after the stresses of cheering Sutton?

Usually a few pints, and if I’m really lucky a takeaway.

18 Does your family share your interest in Sutton?

Generally no, except my fiancées Dad (GK, Les Brookes) used to play for Sutton in 1968-1970 so he comes to as many games as he can between Aston Villa home games.

19 What are your hopes on the field for the coming season?

Much the same as question 15 and 10.

20 How many grounds have you visited with Sutton, and are there any new grounds you will be going to this season?

I tend to keep a good record of this, so as it stands I have been to 70 grounds with Sutton, and moving back to the NPL next season gives me 6 new grounds to visit.
