Steve Benyon officially takes charge of his first Sutton Coldfield Town game as he welcomes a strong Leafield side
The Royals are back at home this weekend as they welcome Leafield Athletic, the fixture will see Steve Benyon take charge in the Domino’s Arena dugout for the first time
Benyon comes to the Royal town with a wealth of experience having his UEFA A License, and working with clubs such as TNS, Shrewsbury Town and Walsall
In his first interview as Sutton boss, Benyon explains that his side won’t fear their second-place opponents
“We aren't going into Sunday against Leafield scared, there's got to be some respect there
“I know Tash really well through her time at Stourbridge and she's done excellent at Leafield
“We've spoken off the pitch in the past but come Sunday my respect is always going to be there, but first and foremost I'm looking and aiming to win the game
“I feel I know a lot about them, to hurt them, show them respect of course because they're second in the league for a reason
“But my priority is Sutton Coldfield and I'll prep the girls to compete for the whole game and I feel that we have got the tools to really hurt Leafield and then to push on for the rest of the season”
Sunday’s clash will be the first meeting between the two sides this season as Leafield will make the short 22-mile trip to the Domino’s Arena
Tash Tezgel’s side are currently seven unbeaten in the League with their last league outing being a big win over promotion rivals Peterborough United
Sutton however are currently sitting ninth in the table following a tough test away to Loughborough in their last league fixture
Last time out for the Royals saw them get on the wrong side of a 7-1 defeat away to West Brom
A trip to the Valley Stadium proved to be a tough one for the Royals with an injury to on loan keeper Maddie Elbro forcing Chloe Evans to step in goal, as well as an injury to midfielder Ell Bruton causing concern for Sutton
Athletic will be hoping to get one up on the Royals having not beaten them in their last three meetings
Last time this fixture was played they were held to a 2-2 draw at the Domino’s Arena following a 3-1 loss to Sutton earlier in the season
The 2022/23 season would only see the Royals face off with Leafield once in cup action as they held them to a 1-1 draw beating them 6-5 on penalties
Make sure to join the Royals this weekend as they return to action at the Domino’s Arena
