Match Report - SCTFC 3 - 0 Rugby Town FC

It was a sunny afternoon at the Central ground and a chance for Toothy to try out some new players, old faces and new systems ready for the new season ahead.

After the 3-1 defeat midweek, the Manager was looking for a much-improved performance and for individuals to stake their claim to a first team place on the opening game of the season.

The first half was very congested in midfield with neither side making much effort on goal. The best efforts for Sutton were with a free kick which went just over the bar from a header; and Dell having a shot blocked from a corner with a follow up shot by Mutton being well saved by the diving Rugby Town keeper.

The second half started much brighter with a more determined wave of attacks towards the oppositions goal.

Romario (number 16) his name, I have been told in good faith, you would expect to see on the Barcelona team sheet, made a delightful run down the wing to float a ball into the penalty area. Leek took it down on a chest turn and fired into the left-hand side of the net to put Sutton in the driving seat .1-0.

70 minutes in and Sutton gained a free kick just outside the penalty area. Reece Leek stepped up to curl a fantastic ball round the wall and into the right side of the netl to make it a double for himself and Sutton. 2-0 Sutton.

Sutton sealed the win towards the end of the half when Romario (number 16) ran down the left wing to thread a ball across goal for the oncoming Max Timms to slot home past the goalkeeper.

3-0 to Sutton on what was literally a game of two halves for Sutton. I’ll take the second half in future please Sutton.
