A preview into Monday’s return to league action, against Cleethorpes Town, by Jack Blenkiron:
The Royals were successful in their quest for their first win of the campaign against Gresley, in the FA Cup Preliminary Round on Saturday, and look to replicate a positive performance against Monday’s opponents at The Central Ground, Cleethorpes Town. Two great goals from Reece Leek, a free kick and a penalty, completed a successful comeback against The Moatmen. Winless in their first two games, Neil Tooth’s men look to gain their first three points of the season.
An insight on The Owls…
Cleethorpes Town F.C, based in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, were founded just over two decades ago, in 1998, as Lincolnshire Soccer School, by Tommy Watson. Initially joining the Lincolnshire League in 2003, the club transferred to the Central Midlands League Premier Division, in 2005. The Owls were of recent fortune, winning the Lincolnshire Senior Cup, defeating Stamford 5-3 on penalties after a 3-3 draw, under the management of Dave Smith. Smith’s men opened their campaign on the road, with a 0-0 draw against Ilkeston Town. Despite an initial slow start, the Owls barnstormed their second fixture, demolishing Lincoln United 5-0 at Linden Club. Similarly, to the Royals, Cleethorpes won their FA Cup Preliminary round fixture, beating United Counties League side Melton Town F.C 3-1, away from home.
