A preview into Saturday’s FA Cup match against Gresley, by Jack Blenkiron:
The Royals look to the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary round in an attempt to resurrect the unfortunate start to the league campaign, following a 1-0 loss against Carlton in the BetVictor Northern Premier– South East Division. Despite the positive defensive showing, following the return of James Beresford, The Royals go into Saturday’s game, away from the league, hoping that Neil Tooth’s men can put an end to the poor form.
An insight on The Moatmen…
Gresley, nicknamed The Moatmen, were founded in 1882 as Gresley Rovers, a name they adopted until 2009, when they were reformed as Gresley FC. The Derbyshire based team have begun their league campaign extremely poorly, losing all four games so far, resulting in the resignation of manager, Gavin Hurren, only on Thursday. Assistant manager Dan Crane, as well as coach Dave McDermott are in charge for our upcoming match. Gresley currently sit 19th in the Midland Football League Premier Division, saved from the foot of the table by a better goal difference than Boldmere St Michaels. Gresley’s start to the new campaign somewhat reflects their luck across the century. Liquidated in 2009 due to financial difficulties, Gresley Rovers reformed as Gresley FC, winning the East Midlands Counties League in 2011, and the Midland Football Alliance in the following campaign. The Moatmen have plied their trade at the Moat Ground since 1909, a stadium with a capacity of 2400.
