Ladies bow out with heads held high

A large crowd at Coles Lane saw a good game from two sides wanting to play football

In what was a difficult tie, the Ladies performed well against a higher level team who were well drilled and mobile

After just 7 minutes Wolves got the opener with a bouncing ball that was misjudged by the Sutton keeper, giving a tap-in for the Wolves striker

Sutton had opportunities through Niamh Deasy and Imogen Fisher that both went wide

Whilst Wolves dominated possession, Sutton broke effectively but lacked forward support from delivery as opportunities were few and far between

In the second-half Wolves scored again on 63 minutes through defensive errors, failing to clear the ball

On 71 minutes Abbie Hyland had the ball in the net with a left-foot drive but was ruled offside

Sutton continued to work hard and pressed to score when Niamh Deasy fired over the bar from distance

Player-of-the-Match was Ally Forbes for her excellent defensive play and organisation

Notable performances came from Del Clifford and Sarah Lampitt

Manager Andy Burman said “This was always going to be a difficult task but the Ladies worked hard and stuck to the task at hand well for ninety minutes. Whilst Wolves had a lot of possession we kept our shape and discipline and gave a very good account of ourselves. We wish Wolves well in the next round. There are many positive things that we can take forward in the next game away at Leek”
