The Royals ventured north to the home of English football, Sheffield FC for their debut in the First Round proper against a team two divisions higher
On a heavy pitch Sheffield took the lead on twenty-one minutes when the Royals failed to clear a ball into the box which was fired in from twelve yards
Immediately after, centre-back Chloe Evans fell awkwardly after a challenge and was taken to hospital where she had dislocated her knee, which popped back in (now awaiting scan on possible ACL/MCL damage)
After a delay of twenty minutes the game restarted
It was very even with both sides having opportunities but in the forty-fourth minute Imogen Fisher raced down the right-flank and cut in to fire home past the Sheffield keeper
The second-half continued with the Royals pushing forward and Sheffield counter-attacking with good movement and hold-up play
In the eighty-ninth minute Sophie Levick broke down the left, cut inside and narrowly missed connecting with ball as the keeper saved it
Extra-Time was unable to separate the teams so onto penalties where Sheffield won the advantage
Very difficult to select a Player-of-the-Match due to many quality performances, particularly from Imogen Fisher, Toni Kingscott and Sarah Lampitt, but Harriet Roberts got the nod for such hard work in midfield
Manager Andy Burman said "To come here and perform like that was very special and it was hard to tell who the higher level team was in such a close game and extra time. We never looked out of place, and gave Sheffield a few things to think about. We thank them for their kind hospitality and wish them well in the next round. Our thoughts also go to Chloe Evans for a safe return to training and playing”
