Royals go top with another single-goal victory

This second versus fourth clash at Coles Lane saw a competitive game in the first-half with the Royals going close from set-plays and breaks but it was Sporting who created a number of good opportunities down their left-flank that were squandered by poor finishing

A head injury to Royals captain, Ruth Graham held the game up towards the end of the half but she was able to carry on

The second-half saw early Royals pressure from set-plays cause Sporting problems in defence and on 51 minutes a Tash Rothery free-kick found Ruth Graham who headed in from close range

This was Graham's fiftieth goal for the Royals!

With the momentum now firmly in their favour the Royals came close from Brittany Civil, Caitlin Hopwood and Ruth Graham

Again Sporting came back and thanks to a quality save from Lottie McElroy the Royals held on for the victory with a strong performance from their defensive line

Player-of-the-Match was Ruth Graham for her resilient defending, leadership on the pitch and goal scoring opportunities

Next week sees the Royals entertain Shifnal Town Ladies in the third qualifying round of the Women's Vitality FA Cup at Coles Lane
