Royals lift trophy despite final-day defeat

Sutton were beaten in their final League game of the season by Worcester City

However the defeat did not dampen their celebratory-spirit, as the League trophy was presented after the final-whistle

Sutton almost opened the scoring in the opening-minute, when good work by Rameyah Farquharson saw a chance for Chloe Finn which was dealt with by the Worcester goalkeeper

After 5 minutes a corner played in by Chloe Handy was cleared off the line by a Worcester defender

2 minutes later Jordan Atkin had a chance which went just wide of the post

Charlotte Worth saw a header land in the goalkeeper’s hands with 10 minutes played

Injury forced Annabelle Jones off after 15 minutes

Handy had a shot from just outside the penalty-area in the 18th minute that the goalkeeper held well

A minute later the goalkeeper again held a shot well, this time from Farquharson

A free-kick from captain Ruth Graham flew over the crossbar midway through the half

A long-range effort from Poppy Deakin flew past the far-post after 27 minutes

After 33 minutes Sarah Lampitt tried her luck from distance, however the ball flew over the crossbar

Sutton goalkeeper Lottie McErloy comfortably held a long-range Worcester effort with 10 minutes of the half remaining

5 minutes later Farquharson forced the Worcester goalkeeper into another save

HT - 0-0

Worcester took the lead 5 minutes into the second-half with a good finish over McElroy

Farquharson hit a shot from outside the penalty-area which cleared the crossbar after 55 minutes

The Worcester goalkeeper came out well to smother a shot from Atkin midway through the half

After 75 minutes Atkin was forced off through injury

Aimee Taylor was unable to connect properly with 10 minutes to go and saw her shot sail well wide

Taylor missed by inches 2 minutes later as the ball flew just the wrong side of the far-post

Another chance came less than a minute later, but Farquharson’s deflected shot was comfortable for the Worcester goalkeeper

Farquharson almost equalised in stoppage-time, but yet again the Worcester keeper produced a fine-save to keep her team in front

There was still time for Farquharson to hit a shot from outside the penalty-area just past the post

Yet another save following a deflected effort was cleared by a Worcester defender, just before any Sutton player could tap the loose-ball into the net

FT - 0-1

Player-of-the-Match was Chloe Finn, whose tremendous energy proved a driving-force in creating several chances
