Royals extend lead to 3 points

Sutton were able to extend their lead at the top of the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division to 3 points with victory at Solihull Sporting

The first chance of the game came when Sutton captain Ruth Graham hit a free-kick that sailed just past the far-post after 4 minutes

The next chance came 10 minutes into the game when a Solihull player fired wide under pressure from 2 defenders

Another Graham free-kick was held comfortably by the Solihull goalkeeper in the 16th minute

20 minutes into the game saw Sarah Lampitt force the keeper into a save with a shot from just outside the penalty-area

A third free-kick from Graham comfortably cleared the crossbar a few minutes later

After 27 minutes Chloe Finn was brought down by the keeper and the referee pointed to the spot

Graham stepped up and made no mistake, putting the Royals 1-0 up

After a lengthy stoppage, Georgia Murphy was eventually forced off through injury with 10 minutes left of the half

Another such stoppage saw a Solihull player forced off just prior to the break

In first-half stoppage-time Sutton went 2-0 up with a goal from Brittany Civil, following good linkup play with Charlotte Cresswell

After a quiet opening to the second-half, the first real chance came when a header from a corner was well held by the Solihull goalkeeper on the hour-mark

2 minutes later Graham hit a long-range effort that dropped just the wrong side of the post

Good pressure from Civil saw her squeeze a pass back to the Solihull goalkeeper and was unlucky to see her effort go wide with 20 minutes to play

Not long after Freya Smith had an effort that flew wide of the far post, followed by a shot from Amelia Lightfoot the keeper held well when the resulting goal-kick came straight back

Solihull pulled it back to 2-1 when a shot from just inside the penalty-area was deflected past Sutton keeper Lottie McElroy with 13 minutes remaining

In the 81st minute a loose-pass was intercepted in the Sutton-half, resulting in an effort that was deflected inches wide of the post

3 minutes later it was 3-1, when a clever turn from Chloe Finn saw her create the space to carry the ball into the penalty-area and hit a looping-shot that dropped in the far top-corner of the net

With less than 5 minutes to play Ally Forbes headed over from a corner, having found space in the Solihull penalty-area

FT - 3-1

Player-of-the-Match was Charlotte Cresswell, whose tireless running and clever distribution player a crucial role in the victory
