Royals bow out of County Cup

Sutton bowed out of the Women's County Cup on penalties to Stourbridge, after 90 minutes couldn’t separate the sides

Stourbridge almost took the lead after 30 seconds when a cross was not dealt with, forcing Lottie McElroy into a fine double-save

After 7 minutes a ball was pulled square but the Stourbridge striker cleared the crossbar with her finish

Another chance for Stourbridge was put wide of the far-post on 10 minutes

A long-range effort on 21 minutes was comfortably held by McElroy

A minute later a shot from just outside the box flew past the far-post of Sutton’s goal

A long-range effort was brilliantly tipped over the bar by McElroy just before the half-hour mark

The Royals first real chance came on 38 minutes, when a free-kick dropped for Chloe Finn whose strike was comfortably held by the Stourbridge goalkeeper

As the first-half entered stoppage-time, a free-kick ended up in Sutton net but was ruled out for offside

Just before the half-time whistle Sutton were awarded a free-kick on the corner of the Stourbridge penalty-area after a foul on Chloe Finn earned the defender a yellow-card

The free-kick was taken by Natasha Rothery and dropped onto the roof of the net

HT - 0-0

On 50 minutes a penalty was awarded to Stourbridge when Lottie caught the Stourbridge striker late and received a yellow-card as a result

The penalty was converted by Niamh Deasy to break the deadlock on her return to Coles Lane

3 minutes later Niamh almost scored again, however the ball clipped the top of the crossbar on its way out for a goal-kick

A handball in the Stourbridge penalty-area resulted in a penalty for Sutton after 57 minutes

A Stourbridge player was sin-binned for her protestations before Ruth Graham converted the penalty to level the game

Immediately following the restart the referee proceeded to show the Stourbridge manager a yellow-card

On 65 minutes a shot taken early hit the Sutton post, almost restoring the lead for Stourbridge

Following a late challenge, Ruth Graham received her first yellow-card in 162 games in the 68th minute…a fantastic achievement for a centre-half!

On 80 minutes Lottie McElroy did brilliantly to divert a cross away from the Stourbridge striker at the back-post who would certainly have scored otherwise!

2 fouls in the space of 2 seconds by the same player saw the referee produce a red-card for Stourbridge after 84 minutes

FT - 1-1

With no Extra-Time the tie went straight to penalties, which saw Stourbridge come out on top 3-0

FT - (3) 1-1 (0)

A fantastic display against the odds in which the Royals executed a game-plan perfectly and could not have given anymore

Player-of-the-Match was captain Ruth Graham, who lead by example throughout with a fine defensive display added to by a goal from the penalty-spot
