Coventrians 1-2 Sutton Coldfield Town Royals

Sutton progressed to the Semi-Finals of the League Cup with a well-deserved victory in very difficult conditions

On a heavy pitch with both the wind and the rain affecting the game, Sutton played up the hill in the first-half and started to take control of the game early on

After a few near-misses, Sutton won a penalty after Whitehouse, on one of her many runs at the defence, was taken down and Osman calmly fired home

Coventrians had occasional chances at the other end but stand-in keeper Rose kept them at bay with good hands and a confident display

The Royals extended their lead before half-time with a training-ground goal, playing the ball out from the back, before a defence-splitting pass saw Whitehouse scamper towards the goal before slotting neatly past the keeper

Sutton were against the strengthening wind in the second-half but were largely in control and should have extended the lead on several occasions

Coventrians pulled a goal back with 10 minutes remaining to create an exciting finish, however Sutton saw the
game out for a comfortable victory
