Creswell in the Royals goal made a superb finger-tip save to deny Shrewsbury on the half- hour , however a fortuitous bounce immediately after allowed Shrewsbury to take the lead
Sutton pressed before half-time but went in at the break 1-0 behind
The second-half started very much as the first with both sides probing without creating any direct chances
Shrewsbury extended their lead midway through the half when the referee overruled the assistant's offiside flag to award a goal
Soon after an unstoppable strike made it 3-0 and the game was over
Sutton kept their heads up and were unlucky not to get a consolation goal in the later stages
The Royals can be pleased with a strong performance, especially in defence, and will take many positives into their first home game at Coles Lane on Sunday
