Tonight we welcome Lye Town FC to Coles Lane for the semi final of the Walsall Senior Cup.
Lye Town were founded in 1930 as Lye & Wollescote Football Club. The club play at the Sports Ground on Stourbridge Road, which is shared with the local cricket club; a temporary rail is erected on the northern side of the pitch during the football season. A seated stand was built at the Stourbridge Road end after World War II. A new stand was built on the southern side of the pitch in 1971, with the seats from the post-war stand later moved into the newer stand when the older stand was demolished A covered standing area with a barrel roof was built behind one goal. The stadium currently holds 1000 supporters.
Lye Town, are nicknamed ‘The Flyers’ and currently play in the Midland League Premier Division. They play in a home kit of blue and white tops and blue shorts and socks, and the goalkeeper plays in an electric green shirt, black shorts and black socks.
Sutton will be wanting to put the disappointment of Saturday’s late equalizer behind them, and luckily, they have this semi-final game straight away to do just that.
Lye are in the Total Motion Midlands Midland Football League Premier Division, but this cup game will even things out, as often the team from the lower leagues will raise their game. Although currently mid table in the league, Lye cannot be underestimated in this evenings game.
This will be a welcome break from the league, and a chance to make the final at Bescot Stadium. This will be great for all connected with Sutton Coldfield Town FC, but as always, your support is vital and they need you there. Let’s all get behind them and hopefully bring that cup back to Coles Lane in May.
The Walsall Senior Cup Final has already been scheduled for 7th May at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium.
Here’s to an entertaining and successful game.
COME ON YOU ROYALS.
