After a disappointing draw last time out, The Royals travelled to Leicestershire to take on Harborough Town. It was hoped their defeat earlier in the season at Coles Lane could be avenged.
Stringer’s starting eleven was as follows: Brown, Sawyer, Armitage, Clements, Beresford, Daily, Dampha, Collins, Forde, Hilton and Edmunds.
Sutton started slowly with Harborough off to a great start as they pushed The Royals back into their own half.
Sutton had a half chance as Daily got on the end of a cross and saw his looping header picked out of the air by Taylor.
Forde tried his luck with an effort which took a ricochet and was flying to the bottom left-hand corner, but Taylor dived quickly to his left to prevent the ball from crossing the line.
Harborough saw several efforts from Arlott-John and Dempsey, all of which went wide.
Harborough Town’s pressure told in the end after a cross into the box was handled by a Sutton player. The resulting penalty was smashed to the bottom right which went just under the body of Brown after guessing the right way. 1-0 Harborough Town.
Sutton beat the offside trap and Edmunds was put through on goal. His effort was smothered by Taylor who came out to prevent the equaliser.
Armitage received a poor challenge just outside the penalty area and the free kick was taken by Edmunds, but his effort was easily saved.
Brown produced a great save right on half time after Carta hit a ball from distance.
Sutton never really got going in the second half, with both teams’ poor in creating any real notable effort.
Hendrie came on for Clements on 81 minutes.
The first notable effort came on 83 minutes, when Hilton received the ball wide. He cut inside the defender and curled his effort into the bottom left corner to put Sutton back in the game. 1-1.
Sutton pushed forward again soon after, but a misplaced pass enabled the counter attack. As expected, Harborough took full advantage of it with Carta finishing off some good passing from them to put the Bees in front again, and with no chance of a comeback for Sutton. 2-1 Harborough.
It was another bad day at the office for The Royals, who now see their season coming to an end with a stutter after so many flat performances in recent weeks.
It’s a home game next week with Cambridge coming to Coles Lane. So, let’s hope for some good home support to give the lads some encouragement, and to get that performance we know they can produce.
