Mark Sanders reports as the Royals loose again, despite a very strong second half

Sutton, after losing 3 on the bounce, travelled to Leicester to take on Hinckley in the hope to get back to winning ways and to break their duck in the league.

Stringer’s team for the evening was as follows: Brown, Hurley, Fitzgerald, Lima, Christophorou, Dampha, Collins, Burgess, McSkeane, Edmunds and Hilton.

Sutton were again slow to start, and a misplaced pass enabled Gill to deliver a ball to the back post where Daire was on hand to volley past Brown. This put Hinckley in the driving seat before Sutton had even got out of the blocks. Hinckley 1-0.

Sutton tried to get back into the game via Edmunds, and a shot with pace flew just over the crossbar.

Edmunds delivered a lovely cross into the box, which nearly caught Highland out as he just about palmed the ball over the crossbar.

Hilton caught the Hinckley defence out, running across midfield before firing just wide of the far post.

It was a difficult first half as Sutton were shell shocked after conceding in the 4th minute.
Early in the second half and a forced substitution was made as Lima got injured, so Birch came on to replace him.

On 59 minutes, a corner to the back post was headed in by Daire to take Hinckley 2-0 up.
Edmunds fired a shot from distance which had pace, but again, wide of the mark.

68 minutes in and Fitzgerald was replaced by Griffin.

Hilton floated a ball to the back post, and Griffin came in to head it just wide of the post. Griffin was involved again moments later after a good run from wide allowed him to fire to the keepers right. Unfortunately, it was well saved in the end.

Aris Christophorou took the game forward with a great run through midfield. A tackle saw the ball fall to Dampha who tried his luck from distance, but the ball was high over the crossbar and didn’t trouble Highland in the Hinckley goal.

A couple of efforts from Burgess and Griffin saw the game out, with Sutton losing their fourth game on the bounce.

It was a difficult night for lads, but they suffered from conceding an early goal and yet another injury to a key player.

It’s back to Coles Lane on Saturday, with a chance to take home advantage and get points on the board against Shepshed Dynamo.

Your team needs you during this difficult period, so come down and drive the team on with your support.
