After a difficult start to the season, success came on Bank Holiday with a fantastic win away against Coleshill Town. Now it’s back to Coles Lane for the lads to get their first win at home in the league against new arrivals Coventry Sphinx.
Coventry Sphinx are based in Coventry and play at Sphinx Drive. Nicknamed The Sphinx, they were formed in 1946 and play in blue and white stripes at home, and yellow and blue stripes away.
They were united Counties League Premier Division South champions in 22/23 season, league cup winners in 2009/10 season and Premier Division champions in 06/07 season.
Coventry Sphinx have had a difficult start, similar to Sutton having played 5 and still yet to find a win. But they have managed 2 draws against Quorn and Gresley which has left them in 19th place in the league. Scoring is an issue for them with only 2 goals in the 5 games, but it must be put into perspective as the 3 games they have lost are all in the top 4 of our league.
Sutton’s win on Monday took them into 18th spot, but still in the danger zone of the play off places.
Both teams will feel like they can win on Saturday as they are very similar with regards to the outcomes of games so far.
