After a poor result against local rivals Boldmere last weekend, and an exit from the FA Trophy at the first time of asking, Sutton have the opportunity to go for their 3rd straight league win on the bounce against Lye Town.
Lye Town are based in Stourbridge and were formed in 1930. They are nicknamed The Flyers and play at the Sports Ground. Lye play in blue and white at home and have been promoted to this league by winning the play-offs in the Midland Premier Division.
We last played Lye in 2019 in the Walsall Senior Cup in the semi final when we won on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Lye Town are currently in 10th place with 8 points having beaten Boldmere, Walsall Wood, and after getting 2 draws against Anstey Nomads and Hinckley.
Sutton have had a poor start, but with their last two victories against Coleshill and Coventry Sphinx, they will feel they can get something from this game.
Sutton are in 15th position now, and are hovering just above the relegation spaces. A loss on Saturday could push them right back in to it.
Sutton will need to make the most of Lye Town’s poor defence as they have conceded 14 in their 6 games so far. On the flip side, Sutton have struggled to make the most of chances created, having only scored 7 goals in their first 6 league games.
It promises to be a close affair, with Lye probably favourites due to having had a better start to the season, and the home advantage.
Hope to see you back the Royals this Saturday.
