Mark Sanders reports as the Royals fall to defeat on Cam Stuarts first game in charge

After two defeats on the bounce and a 2-week break, it was time for change. That change came in the form of Cameron Stuart who has replaced Dave Stringer. The hope is that he can take the team towards a better place in terms of performance and results.

Cameron made a few changes to the team who last played, picking the following: Brown, Sawyer, Christophorou, Lima, Beresford, Collins, Byrne, Burgess, Brown, Hilton and Edmunds.

Sutton, as expected, went straight on the front foot. Kyle Byrne found himself with the ball, in space on the edge of the box, but his effort went just wide of the post.

Burgess found himself unmarked in the centre of midfield, so hit an effort which flew just wide. Byrne was instrumental in setting this effort up.
Beresford, who back in the side after a lengthy injury, nearly put Sutton in front with a great header. But it was straight to the keeper.

Leo picked up the ball deep in his own half, ran it into the final third, before being brought down by a Loughborough defender. The free kick was dually taken by Burgess who cleared the wall, but curled just wide of the far post.

On 32 minutes and against the run of play, Loughborough took the lead. Molyneaux took a shoot which Brown parried, only to find Furey was unmarked and on hand to tap in. 0-1 Loughborough.

Minutes later and Edmunds found himself through on goal. With just the keeper to beat, his effort was well saved by King to keep his net intact.

Right before half time, Sutton found themselves 2-0 down after Chapman fired home. 0-2 Loughborough.

Sutton came out second half with clear instructions to power forward and get the next goal. Leo managed to get a header, but the direction was not great as the ball went wide of the far post.

Beresford managed to get a header at the back post. It was heading towards goal, but King was equal to it.

Sawyer had an effort from the wing which was at a tight angle. He caught the keeper out, as his shot just shaved the top of the crossbar.

The first substitution under the Stuart era was McSkeane on for Byrne on 66 minutes.

Alex McSkeane wasted no time at all, immediately getting straight on the ball. He unleashed a shot, but it was just wide of the left-hand post.

On 72 minutes the second substitution of the afternoon was made, with Clements coming on for Brown.

Hilton had a glorious run, and his powerful shot ended with King just managing to save the effort with his foot, to divert the goal bound effort.

Beresford went close for Sutton. He rose at the back post to meet a curling cross from Burgess, his bullet header went just over the crossbar.

Disaster for Sutton on 79 minutes, when Loughborough were awarded a penalty after Molyneaux was brought down following a clumsy tackle.

The resulting effort by Garnett hit the left-hand post, sparing Sutton more heartache.

The last substitution saw Cessay come on for Burgess on 80 minutes.

On 85 minutes Loughborough were down to 10 men, as Connor Furey received a second yellow.

Sutton had a free kick just before full-time which Lima got his head to, only for King to thwart his effort.

The game finished with a 2-0 defeat to Sutton, and although the performance was much improved the result was still the same.

Lots of work for Cameron Stuart to do, but if the lads continue with performances like today, surely the results will follow.
