Harrison Sanders reports as the Royals unbeaten run in the league at home comes to an end!

Following Sutton’s 3-1 loss to Aston Villa, Cameron Stuart aimed to get back to winning ways. After not winning the previous 2 games against 4th place Hinckley Leicester RD, this would be an important game for the Royals, as it was another game against a play-off contender.

Cameron Stuart made 2 changes to the team that lost midweek, replacing Tom Hurley and Jack Burgess with Kyle Byrne and Aris Christophorou.

1. Jonathan Brown 2. Aris Christophorou 3. Taylor Carter-Byrne 4. Pedro Lima 5. Captain James Beresford 6. Fraser Doyle 7. Kyle Bryne 8. Cameron Collins 9. James Tague 10. Rhys Hilton 11. Ryan Edmunds SUBS: 12. Tom Hurley 14. Jack Burgess 15. Theo Rowe 16. Alex McSkeane 18. Reece Gibson

1 min: Sutton had their first chance in the first minute. A long ball was played on the left hand-side to Kyle Bryne who took it down and cut inside, but his effort was blocked and comfortably saved by Will Highland.

4 min: Sutton had earnt themselves a corner following a headed clearance out from Louie Gill. Ryan Edmunds took the resulting corner which landed on the head of Beresford. He knocked it back across the face of goal, but Tague’s headed effort was over the bar.

It was a positive start from Sutton with many chances coming early, and were on the front foot.

6 min: Edmunds played a switch to Hilton and did what he does best. He took it around the full-back and drove it into the box, but was denied by a strong hand from Highland.

9 min: Carter-Byrne presented his long throw into the box onto the head of Pedro. He flicked it to the back post to Cam Collins who’s headed effort went over the bar.

12 min: Hilton drove past the full-back again and played the ball into the feet of Tague. He skipped past the CB and unleashed a powerful strike just over the bar. Sutton were running riot, with the finishing touch just not quite there.

13 min: Jono picked out Cam Collins over the top, with one of the passes of the season. He took it down well, but couldn’t quite get his effort off.

21 min: GOALLLL!!!! Once again, another over the top ball is played over the backline, with Tague avoiding the offside trap and doing what he does best with a lobbed effort over Will Highland. Time and time again we see it work. 1-0 Sutton

31 min: Ryan Edmunds found Hilton in space, and played a first-time pass into Tague, who’s effort was well saved by Will Highland, and resulted into a corner for Sutton.

36 min: Hinckley bring the score back to how it started, after Sutton had arguably dominated the whole game. It was a counter attack from the visitors which saw Humphreys send through Williams, He drove into the box with the effort deflecting off Jono and going In. Sutton 1-1 Hinckley

39 min: Tague mis controlled the ball. But fortunately, it deflected off the Hinckley CB and led into a 1 on 1 for Cam Collins, but his effort was denied by the feet of Highland.

40 min: Beresford pick up a yellow for wiping out the Hinckley player on the left-hand side of the Sutton area!

HT Sutton 1-1 Hinckley. Sutton dominated large parts of the first half, but found themselves going into the break level after failing to exploit their chances.

46 min: 20 seconds into the second half, Kyle Bryne picked up the ball on the left-hand side. He drove in and curled a shot round the right-hand side of the post.

57 min: Hinckley punish Sutton again with a counter attack, and that man again Humphreys found Lyne. And with a ball over the top of the Sutton defence, he slotted the ball past Jono. Sutton 1-2 Hinckley

59 min: Miraculously, Sutton, somehow don’t score when the ball was on the line for about 10 seconds. Tague flew at it and other players as well, but in the end, the Hinckley player Edwards cleared it off the line 3 times!

65 min: Tague had a good chance to bring the score level, with him going 1 on 1, but he was taken out by the keeper.

66 min: A corner from Ryan Edmunds landed on the head of Beresford again. This time he rifled it towards the goal, but Highland saved at point blank range. His resulting save meant the ball landed in the box to Jack Burgess, who fired a curling effort narrowly over.

67 min: OFF: 7 Kyle Bryne 6 Fraser Doyle ON: 14 Jack Burgess 15 Theo Rowe

For the next 15 mins Sutton were dominant once again, but failed to create any clear-cut chances.

84 min: Hinckley break once again on the counter, with Nutall breaking into the Sutton box, but gets taken out by Jono. This led to a penalty. In my opinion, a very harsh penalty, with complaints coming from Sutton players over the call. From the resulting penalty, the man who won it, Nutall stepped up and placed it into the corner. Jono got a hand onto it, but not enough to keep it out.

Sutton 1-3 Hinckley

86 min: OFF: 8 Cam Collins ON: 16 Alex McSkeane

90 min: Pushing into the final stages, Beresford saw Red following a second yellow for dissent.

FT Sutton 1-3 Hinckley

Overall, Sutton will be disappointed with the outcome of the game, missing big chances in both halves. In the end, the scoreline flattered the visitors, and Sutton will be disappointed with losing an important game against playoff contenders. No win so far in 2024 for Sutton, but all could change as it’s back-to-back to back home, with Sporting Khalsa visiting from Willenhall in another important game in the playoff race.

So, get yourselves down to Coles Lane and back the lads!
