Royals lose at Warrington
Richard Sneekes took his new charges at Sutton Coldfield Town to Warrington still looking for his first points in charge.
It was not to be his day as a goal in each half by Warrington's skipper Lewis Codling proved too much for a battling Sutton to pull back despite an 80th minute strike from 25 yards by Sutton skipper Danny O'Callaghan.
Sutton began the brightest and an early attack was ended with a corner and a series of attacks were blocked and turned away.
Warrington's first attack in the 8th minute led to the opening goal which had a touch of luck about when James Wren dived at Codling's feet but the ballooned off his body and looped into the net. This put Sutton onto the back foot and they were always chasing the game for the rest of the half.
The second half began with Sutton on the front foot and a long shot from the right just skimmed the crossbar. Sutton then had a very strong appeal for a penalty waved away when O'Callaghan chased a through ball and was bundled over in the box. Warrington responded with an attack that was punched away by Wren but that man Codling was on hand to pick up his punched clearance and volley over the keeper into the net.
Sutton really applied the pressure and were rewarded in the 80th minute when O'Callaghan picked up a loose clearance 25 yards out and hit the ball low to the right hand bottom corner of the net. Despite intense attacks Sutton just could not get the equalizer.
This was a good battling performance from a team adjusting to many changes and showed hope for the future.
