Yaxley FC are based in Yaxley, near Peterborough, in Cambridgeshire and are nicknamed the Cuckoos. The club was founded in 1962 and joined Division Three South of the Peterborough & District League. In 1963 they were renamed Yaxley British Legion, and in 1965 were promoted to Division Two. They won Division Two in 1970–71, were promoted to Division One and the following year dropped British Legion from their name.
In 1986 they were renamed Coalite Yaxley as part of a sponsorship deal, and a further change of sponsor in 1990 saw the club renamed Clarksteel Yaxley. In 1995 they moved to a new ground, In2itive Park, Leading Drove, Holme Road, and their current stadium holds 1500 supporters.
Yaxley’s home kit is Navy Blue & Orange shirts, Navy Blue shorts, and Navy Blue & Orange socks, and their away kit is Orange & Navy shirts, Orange shorts and Orange & Navy socks.
Sutton are on a small run of games unbeaten now and having won their last 2 are full of confidence. Hopefully we will see the return of Beresford today who has been outstanding this season and while the team have done well without him, they are a stronger unit with him in the side.
Last Saturdays win against AFC Dunstable was a hard fought one. Not a pretty game, but a game that was a gritty and determined one which is often needed in the final stages of the season to progress towards those play-offs. Yaxley are on a poor run of form with only one win in their last 12 games. They were beaten last week by division strugglers Kidlington, their only recent win was against Berkhamsted, a team which Sutton struggled to get a victory against. Go figure!
This game should not be taken lightly, Yaxley ripped apart Sutton in the reverse fixture last year, and you could probably say it was Suttons worst game of the season so far. Sutton will need to be at their best again to keep the dream alive, two points off the play-off positions and if results go our way it could be a very productive weekend indeed.
Here’s to an entertaining and successful game.
COME ON YOU ROYALS.
