After Saturday’s clash in the FA Trophy, it’s time to introduce the County Cups, and this Tuesday sees the return of the Walsall Senior Cup.
This tournament has been cancelled for two seasons due to the pandemic, so to see its return is very welcomed by all.
Sutton fans will know the last time this competition ran in 2018/19, The Royals got all the way to the final. Unfortunately, we lost to Boldmere St Michaels, who are still the current holders of the trophy.
The Walsall Senior Cup is a competition for clubs in and around Walsall, and the final takes place at Walsall FC’s Bescot Stadium.
Stafford Rangers play in a league above Sutton in the Northern Premier League - Premier Division.
Stafford currently sit in 8th place in that league having won 6 out of the 17 games they have played so far.
They haven’t found the net frequently this season, but their defence is one of the best in their league, which is why they are in such a good position.
Stafford were formed in 1876 and play in black and white stripes. They are nicknamed The Rangers as per their name, and play at Marston Road in Stafford.
Most recently, they were Northern Premier League Division One South champions in 2015/16, and last won this competition in 2013/14.
Many fans will remember The Royals last encounter with Stafford which was in October 2019 when both sides met in the FA Trophy. That day saw Sutton come away with a 2-1 victory.
It will be nice to get to the final again in this competition, as The Royals will feel they have unfinished business after not doing themselves justice in the final of 2019.
Come down to Coles Lane on Tuesday night to support the lads to progress further in this competition.
