Mark Sanders reports as the Royals loose out to high flying Dynamo

After a poor bank holiday match against Coleshill, Sutton were determined to put in a good performance against Loughborough and get back to more positive results.

Stringers team for the game was as follows: Brown, Sawyer, Armitage, Todd, Beresford, Adegbola, Dampha, Collins, Spruce, Hilton, Hendrie.

Sutton took the game to Loughborough from the off, and Armitage was first to try his luck from distance with a shot that just went wide of the near post.

Spruce, who was full of running, managed to evade the defender before unleashing an effort which curled just over the bar.

Hendrie saw his effort easily saved after some good interplay with Spruce.

Adegbola tried his luck from centre of the Loughborough half, but saw his effort fly just over centre of the goal.

Sutton should have taken the lead on 38 minutes as they had several chances to put the ball into the back of the net. Spruce fired a low drive which the keeper spilled, and a follow up by Collins and Dampha saw the ball cleared off the line twice to keep the scores level.

Disaster for Sutton minutes later, as Bastos is brought down in the box from a challenge by Hendrie.

Tague stepped up and hit to Browns right. It took Dynamo into the lead and although Jono went the right way, he could not get a hand to it. 1-0 Dynamo.

Hilton nearly got Sutton back on level terms after a wonderful through ball by Dampha. It enabled Hilton to run onto it, but his cross come shot rolled across goal with nobody on hand for a simple tap in.

Half time and Sutton, despite playing a good game, found themselves 1-0 down.

Sutton started the second half brightly, and Spruce had a great chance to level. He brought the ball through midfield, cut inside the defender, before unleashing a shot which King was equal to in the Loughborough goal.

Hilton went on one of his runs, dribbling past the Loughborough back line before firing the ball across goal. But again, no Royal had gambled and the ball was wasted.

74 minutes in, and after some disagreements between the two teams on the field, Sawyer was sent off for a tough challenge on Bastos.

Hilton was substituted on 75 minutes for Dickens, and minutes later Adegbola was taken off to be replaced by Mansfield.

Sutton took a corner and Beresford was at the back post to hit a bullet header which King just managed to keep out.

Beresford was playing in the Loughborough half to try and force a goal as there was nothing to lose. His back header from a lofted ball from Brown found Spruce; he laid the ball back to Bez who fired from distance, only to see his effort go over the crossbar.

The game finished with a disappointing 1-0 loss for Sutton. They will be scratching their heads as to how they didn’t come away with all three points on this one.

The score line does not show the true picture of the game! Stringer’s men put in a good shift and played well as a team. Sometimes as they say, football is a cruel game and today it was just that for The Royals.

Next fixture is Tuesday night against Bedworth so let’s get behind the lads and get more points on the board.
