This Saturday, Sutton travel to Stamford in Lincolnshire for our first meeting of the season with The Daniels. The lads will be keen to get something from the game after the disappointing loss last weekend to Sporting Khalsa.
The club was established in 1896 and spent a single season in the East Midlands League. After several years without league football, the club joined the Northamptonshire League in 1909, and won the title in 1911–12.
Stamford play at the Zeeco Stadium which holds 2000 supporters, of which 250 are seated.
Stamford play in a home kit of red shirt with a white trim, red shorts and red socks. Their away kit is a yellow shirt with black trim, black shorts and yellow socks.
Stamford have been in really good form in this division having won 8 of their opening 10 matches. This has meant they are currently in a play-off position in second place taking a total of 26 points so far this season. In contrast, Sutton have only 12 points and sit in 12th position, just below mid table.
The last time Sutton played Stamford was towards the end of last season when they lost 6-0. Stamford have one of the tightest defences in the league, only conceding 7 goals this season and seem to be fairing well up the other end, scoring an average of 2 goals per game.
This will be a difficult game for sure, but Sutton often raise their game for tougher opposition and with all change at the club presently, don’t bet against them getting a result.
Hope to see as many of you as can travel on Saturday to give Stringer’s men a real boost.
