Its been a disappointing few weeks after losing twice, both home and away. Then, the debacle that followed last Saturday with the lads travelling down to St Neots, only to have the game pulled away from them with an hour to kick off was frustrating. Hopefully, another trip to Cambridgeshire will prove more fruitful in more ways than one.
Yaxley FC are based in Yaxley, which is near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire, and they are nicknamed the Cuckoos. The club was founded in 1962 and they joined Division Three South of the Peterborough & District League. In 1963 they were renamed Yaxley British Legion, and in 1965 were promoted to Division Two. They won Division Two in 1970–71, were promoted to Division One and the following year dropped British Legion from their name.
In 1986 they were renamed Coalite Yaxley as part of a sponsorship deal, and a further change of sponsor in 1990 saw the club renamed Clarksteel Yaxley. In 1995 they moved to a new ground, In2itive Park, Leading Drove, Holme Road; and their current stadium holds 1500 supporters. Yaxley’s home kit is Navy Blue & Orange shirts, Navy Blue shorts, and Navy Blue & Orange socks, and their away kit is orange & navy shirts, orange shorts and Orange & Navy socks.
Yaxley have been struggling in the league as they sit at the foot of the table with no wins in 19, and only one point.
Yaxley do have one of the poorest defences in the league, having already conceded 65 goals in 19 matches. A statistic which Sutton must exploit if they are to get something from the game.
Sutton lost 4-3 last time they played away to Yaxley, but both teams have changed a lot since then. It will be a tough battle that’s for sure with so much at stake for both sides. Sutton did win in the opening fixture of this season 2-1; it was a hard-fought game and Sutton came through to gain all three points. Even though on current stats it should be an easy encounter, we have come away with nothing on the previous two visits. It’s something which history reminds us…. Yaxley should not be underestimated.
Here’s to an entertaining and successful game fingers crossed it goes ahead.
