Well, it’s the festive season again which can only mean one thing. Yes, a boxing day football match at Coles Lane! This year it’s against our local rivals Halesowen Town.
Sutton had a great win last weekend at Yaxley, but need to improve home form sooner rather than later. And, to change things against top of the table Halesowen, it does not come much harder.
Halesowen Town were founded in 1873 and are nicknamed the Yeltz. They currently play at The Grove and play in blue and white strip.
Halesowen Town’s recent honours include being the Division one south champions in 2013/14, and Worcestershire Senior cup winners in 03/04. They also had an amazing run in the FA Trophy in the 19/20 season reaching the Semi-Finals.
Last season we lost 2-1 at home, and were knocked out of the F.A Cup early with a 3-0 away win for the Yeltz. However, more recently back in April, the Royals managed a good 1-1 draw away, and this season we won 2-0 at home in the FA Trophy.
Halesowen are currently top of the Northern Premier league with 15 wins out of nineteen, so this will definitely be a difficult game for Sutton who have won only 8 of their 19 games so far. Both sides are the only two sides not to get a single draw this season so we are odds on for a draw this Monday.
It’s no surprise that Halesowen are the league’s top goal scorers with 47 goals, but considering Sutton are in 12th place, they can score a goal or two themselves with 32 so far in the league.
Simon Cobourne will be one to watch out for as he has bagged 12 goals already this season. Sutton will be hoping Rhys Hilton will continue his goal scoring form, adding to his already impressive 10 goal haul so far.
Hope to see as many of you as can make it to support the lads on this Boxing Day bonanza.
