Sutton will be looking to get more positive results at home this week, when they take on Chasetown at Coles Lane. After Mondays difficult encounter with Coleshill, Sutton will be hopeful of a more positive result in today’s local derby.
The last time these two teams met was earlier in the season, and Sutton lost 3-1 away. But Sutton are a stronger team now, and on their day can beat anyone from top to bottom in this league.
Sutton have had a mixed campaign so far this season; they currently sit in 12th place, and Chasetown lie below in 14th place.
Having won a total of 6 games out of the 19 played so far, Chasetown are just two points off catching the Royals. The problem they have this season is scoring goals, and with the worst goalscoring record in the league, they are matched only by bottom club Yaxley.
Chasetown are based in Burntwood, Staffordshire and are nicknamed the Scholars having been formed by affiliates of nearby Chase Terrace High School.
They were formed in 1954 and play at The Scholars Ground. Chasetown gained national recognition when in 2005 their first round FA cup tie against Oldbury was televised. The result was 1-1 on the day, and they finished the season as champions of the Midland Alliance League. In 2007-08 FA cup they reached the third round proper, and eventually lost 3-1 to Cardiff City who went on to win it that year. Chasetown still hold the record of the lowest ever ranked team to reach the third round.
Sutton will need plenty of support to overcome our local rivals and get all three points. Chasetown are a side who have proven a difficult challenge over the years, with only four wins against them in the last 16 meetings. We last beat them at home in 2019 winning 2-1 on the day, and a result like this will be welcome with home form suffering a bit in recent weeks.
Hope to see as many of you at Coles Lane this Saturday with a 2pm kick off don’t forget.
Come on you Royals.
