Sutton, having got their first point on the board midweek, will be keen to add to the tally against Leek Town this Saturday. But as we know from last season, this will be no easy task as Leek were odds on for promotion before the pandemic cruelly took that away from them.
Last season we lost 2-0 away and never got the chance to play them at Coles Lane. This season things are different with new signings for both teams, and already Leek have found this season a little tougher having lost their last two games against Mickleover and Kidsgrove Athletic.
They did thump Wisbech Town though 5-0 on the opening game of the season, so they do have the firepower to turn teams over when they are on their game.
Leek Town are based in Leek, Staffordshire and play their home games at Harrison Park. They are nicknamed the Blues as they play in blue were formed in 1946. This Saturday, Leek Town will be playing in their away colours of green and black.
Leek have had many successes over the years, and their 1990 Wembley appearance in the FA Trophy just typifies this. Unfortunately, they lost out to Barrow on the day.
Leek were Northern Premier Champions in the 96/97 season as well as winning the Staffordshire County League several times in the 50s.
Leeks main local rivals are considered to be Buxton, but are also local to Matlock Town and Kidsgrove Athletic.
Sutton will need to be on their game on Saturday to get anything from this game. Defensively they seem to have it sussed, but going forward they are missing the firepower of Gibson who is still out for a number of weeks. With only bagging one goal in their last six games, you don’t have to be Einstein to work out we need him back as soon as possible.
The performance on Tuesday night was good, but Sutton just needed to bag that goal.
We need your support on Saturday to get the lads firing on all cylinders and bringing much needed points to the Royals.
Don’t forget to book your tickets online and bring your face masks for entrance to the club house.
Merchandise and programmes will be on sale in the club shop.
Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible and hope you enjoy your day.
